Planning for the 12&13 May 2006 Shabbaton for prospective community members is underway. You can help! If you know of people who would be interested in attending the Shabbaton, please invite them to attend (or pass on their names so that we can contact them). Perhaps you could host a family for a meal or house them for the day. Whatever you can do will be helpful! Please see the recently-mailed letter for details and volunteer your assistance by contacting Barbara Saltzburg at 908-527-8552 or Lisa Averick at 908-352-3923. Thank you!

Heartiest congratulations to Janet and Sholom Kaufman and to Rachel and Rabbi Yossi Kenigsberg on the birth of a son to their children, Chaya and Eliyahu Kenigsberg. Congratulations also to great-grandparents Mimi and Victor Cohen and to the entire mishpachah. May the bris occur b'sha'ah tovah umutzlachas, and may we continue to hear and pass on good news!

The shul Website continues to be updated on a regular basis. In this message, we highlight our excellent Youth Dep't, which once again has a number of exciting events planned for you and your children & grandchildren, from an Oneg for youngsters this coming Shabbos afternoon to horticultural fun to NCSY regionals and Challah baking -- for details, please consult the flyer, and please plan to participate!
Thank you for reading this message, surfing the site, and thinking of ways to improve the site and our community!

In conjunction with the sponsorships of many local shuls & schools, including the Elmora Shul, Congregation AABJ&D of West Orange, NJ will be hosting an important program for parents this coming Sunday night, beginning at 8PM with a sicha by Rav Mayer Twersky and continuing with a lecture by forensic computer investigator Philip Rosenthal on Internet safety. Thanks to the communal sponsorships, there is no charge for this event -- please see the flyer for details and, if you can, attend it! Thank you.

A wide variety of Elmora Shul and community events are planned for the weeks to come. Here is a short summary (please click on the embedded links for date, time, and other details), ordered either by date of RSVP or of the event itself:
Please participate in as many of these events as possible as we count up towards z'man matan Toraseinu! and thanks for reading.

We would like the upcoming JEC Elmora Shul General Meeting (scheduled for 8:45PM [after the first Reibel-Beth Medrash Ma'ariv minyan] on May 17th) to be as useful to you (and as "short&sweet") as possible. To that end, please respond with your answers to these questions (as well as with any other comments or thoughts re the meeting and/or its content). Thank you.
Q#1: Do you or any members of your family intend to attend the meeting?
Q#2: What would you like the Board to discuss at the meeting?
Q#3: Do you have any questions or issues you would like the Board or a particular Board member to answer or address?

Last Sunday night's program can be heard via the TorahWeb.org site -- whether or not you were able to attend the event, you will undoubtedly gain from listening to it and inculcating the thoughts and advice of both speakers. Thank you.

Our shul's annual Graduation Kiddush is coming up soon, and we can be proud of all our JEC Bruriah and RTMA graduates! If you would like to sponsor the kiddush, please see the attached form, fill it out, and give or send it (together with your remittance) to Miriam Reisman; any questions can be directed to her via tel# 908-353-0029. Thank you!

The deadline to reserve a spot for the Liberty Hall Museum tea has been extended to Wednesday night, May 17th (and many thanks to all the listmembers who responded to that night's General Meeting poll). Please support the efforts of those involved with this event! The local contact for reservations is Barry Wacholder -- you can reach him at 908-353-2680. Thank you.
A big y'yashair kochachem to the many community members who helped organize the P' Emor Shabbaton, host the many lovely families, and/or demonstrate why we're justifiably proud of our kehillah and want to share it with them! I'y'H', our guests will be able ambassadors, whether or not they decide to build their bayis ne'eman in/move it to this area. Thanks!

At Wed. night's General Meeting, we found out that apparently only a fraction of the community members who committed to having a visiting sofer check their pair(s) of t'filin have thus far made appointments to bring their t'filin for checking this coming week, May 22nd through May 25th. Whether or not you made any prior commitment, please take advantage of this tremendous service, arranged by Rav Teitz, and, if you have not already done so, call the JEC Business Office to schedule your appointment. Thank you!
The physical transformation of the JEC's street-level Bais Medrash has been nothing short of amazing, and we have many community members and families to thank for underwriting the necessary costs, first and foremost among them the Reibel family. Rosh Chodesh Sivan, May 28th, is your chance to show hakoras hatov! In order to give the organizers of that morning's ceremony the opportunity to properly plan it, please RSVP to the JEC Business Office. Thanks.
Our best wishes for a guten Shabbes/Shabbas Shalom as we complete seifer Vayikra!

Heartiest congratulations to Beth and Rabbi Herbert Russ on the birth of a son to their children, Avraham and Peshy. Congratulations also to the Levitt m'chutanim and to the entire mishpachah. May the bris occur b'sha'ah tovah umutzlachas, and may we continue to hear and pass on good news!

Have a wonderful, desert-like Shabbos! and thanks for reading.

The funeral and l'vaya for Perl Hendel a'h' will take place at 10:30AM tomorrow, Monday, May 29th, at Jeffer's Funeral Home, 4620 Fort Hamilton Parkway (at 47th Street), Brooklyn, NY. Her daughter, Amy Bassan, will sit shiv'a through the morning of Thursday, June 1st (the eve of Chag haShavuos) at 7922 - 21st Avenue (corner of 80th Street) in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn (tel#: 718-259-9398 or -1537; ZIP: 11214-1948).
Sincerest condolences to the mishpachah, including the Bassan and Hendel families. May we have the opportunity to share better news in the future and witness the era of "bila hamaves lanetzach."

Unfortunately, some more bad news about which to inform you: the passing of Marshall Pekarsky a'h', brother of Mark Pekarsky and Ina Prager. The l'vaya will take place tonight at the Continental Airlines cargo area within Newark Airport (Ma'ariv at 9:15PM); burial will i'y'H' occur in eretz Yisrael. Mark and Mrs. Prager will sit shiv'a through the morning of Thursday, June 1st (the eve of Chag haShavuos) at Mark's residence, 324 Hillside Road in Union, NJ (tel#: 908-629-0547; ZIP: 07083-7705). Minyan times are as follows:

Thanks to Bill Goldfischer, Ken Mandel, and a "few good [young] men," as well as sponsors, Shul members can enjoy a delicious S'udah Shlishis after the late Mincha minyan most weeks of the year. On Shabbos P' Naso, we're hosting one Mincha minyan at a family-friendly time (5:30PM) and are planning a very special post-Minchah event -- for adults, a panel discussion on challenges facing our teens, and for youngsters, their own s'udah in a different location (under appropriate supervision). While, like the "normal" S'udah Shlishis, there is no charge for this event for members (non-members may participate for a token fee), you must RSVP by June 5th (the previous Monday) to let us know how many adults and kids plan to attend at the respective locations: please call Efrona Hagler at 908-558-1565 or e-mail Roanna Pascher. Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you!
Have a wonderful week as we complete our preparations for the Chag! and thanks for reading.

The funeral and l'vaya for Perl Hendel a'h' took place earlier today. As noted yesterday, her daughter, Amy Bassan, will be sitting shiv'a through the morning of Thursday, June 1st (the eve of Chag haShavuos) at 7922 - 21st Avenue (corner of 80th Street) in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn (tel#: 718-259-9398 or -1537; ZIP: 11214-1948). Joining her there are two brothers and a sister. Minyan times, which were arranged in conjunction with a local kollel in order to help ensure a quorum, are as follows:
Again, our sincerest condolences to the mishpachah, including the Bassan and Hendel families. May we have the opportunity to share better news in the future and witness the era of "bila hamaves lanetzach."

Rabbi Herman has coordinated a lovely night (Thursday, into Friday morning) of learning for us all -- please peruse the newly-revised flyer (which also notes information on two Shabbos-afternoon shiurim for women and on that day's s'udah shlishis) for details. Please note: hanaitz/sunrise on Friday morning is at 5:28AM [as per the weekly schedule but not as noted in an older version of the flyer which was US-Mailed to members], so the k'vasikin Shacharis minyan that morning will most likely start at approximately 4:50AM [rather than at the 5AM time listed in the weekly schedule]. We look forward to seeing you!
Please perform "Eruv Tavshilin" on Thursday before the start of the Chag. If you have any questions about this or any other Halachic matter, please contact Rabbi Herman.
May we successfully complete our preparations for & enjoy the Chag! and thanks for reading.
