The next issue of the shul newsletter is coming out soon!  Once again, we plan to list a Tributes section which, for the token fee of $10, allows you one line in which to memorialize, thank, honor, or otherwise acknowledge someone (go on, be creative!).  Within the next week, please reply with your desired listing or listings (or send the information to Sheila Nashofer), specifying "From," "To," and (if you don't want us to "fill in the blank") your personal birthday, anniversary, Yahrzeit, or similar wish, and then bring a check for the appropriate amount (listing "HaMagid" or "the Elmora Shul newsletter" in the Memo section) to the JEC Business Office.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reply.  Thank you!

After a terrific start this past weekend, our shul's Youth Department, led by Elie Bodner, has scheduled many events (listed below) for the next few weeks -- please participate in as many as possible and be sure to contact Elie with any questions or comments.  First, a request: if you have any new or gently-used toys to donate, the Youth Dep't can certainly use them -- please bring them to Shabbos Groups or call Elie at 917-583-5963 to arrange pickup.  Thank you!

At the present time, events include:

More events are planned for the first two weeks of October (before and during the Sukkos holiday) -- stay tuned for details.  Thank you for reading, and have a great week!

The funeral and l'vaya for Moshe Farkas a'h' will take place at 11AM tomorrow, Wednesday, 13 September 2006, at Adath Israel (a/k/a/ the North Avenue Shul).  His children will sit shiv'a at his apartment, 801 North Broad Street #2C in Elizabeth, NJ (tel#: 908-352-0151; ZIP: 07208-2548) through Tuesday morning.  Davening times this week (for next week's times, please consult the weekly schedule beginning this coming Friday afternoon) are as follows:

Sincerest condolences to the mishpachah, including the Farkas and Hyman families.  May we have the opportunity to share better news in the future and witness the era of "bila hamaves lanetzach."

As noted on the JEC weekly schedule, a rally for Israel has been scheduled for 12noon on Wednesday, 20 Sep. 2006 in front of the United Nations.  This rally represents an opportunity for all Jews & friends of Israel to express to world leaders, who have come to address the UN General Assembly, not only our support for the security of Israel and its citizens, not only our solidarity with those who combat evil in our midst, but also our outrage at the UN hosting a would-be heir to Hitler y'mach shmo v'zichro and our collective prayer to HaKadosh Baruch Hu to save us from those who are, as we note in the Haggadah, "om'din aleinu l'chaloseinu."  An unprecendented spectrum of Jewish organizations, including the OU and Agudath Israel, ask you to make the time and bring your "kol Ya'akov" (suggestion: bring a book of T'hilim and, if possible, a shofar) to join with the assembled.  Thank you.

> The next day, Sunday, Sept. 17th, Rabbi Avrohom Herman will help us all get into the right spirit by reviewing the fundamental concepts of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Hakippurim....<

This shiur, which explores the dichotomy between the solemnity of the day and its celebratory aspects via a seminal explanation of the Seifer haChinuch, is now available via the Torah audio/video section of the shul's Website.  Enjoy!

Thanks to your past munificence, our shul has many new siddurim, and here is another opportunity to share in the mitzva of "zeh Keili v'anveihu": sponsor an Artscroll Machzor!  Even more wonderfully, an anonymous donor has agreed to match your sponsorship up to a total of 50 machzorim if you sponsor one or more machzorim before Shabbos P' B'reishis.  Please take advantage of this limited-time offer: print out the attached form and fill it out as directed.  Thank you!

As Rabbi Herman noted this past Shabbos, our community mikvah will not be available in the near future for use by men.  The Taharas Hamishpacha International organization and the OU feature comprehensive listings of mikvaos in the area (the regional listing of our neighboring Linden shul is also noteworthy) -- please avail yourself of the listed contact information.  Mikvaos near our community which probably are available for use by men include Highland Park's, Livingston's (associated with the Suburban Torah Center), Passaic's Mikvah Yisroel, and Staten Island's Mikvah Israel and YI of SI mikvah.  If you have any information in this regard which may be of use to the community, please let us know.  Thank you, and may we merit "mikol chatoseichem, lifnei H', titharu."

A listmember has informed us of a regional mikvah available for men which isn't listed by either the Taharas Hamishpacha International organization or the OU (b'li neder, we will ask them to add this listing to their respective directories).  This mikvah is located in the new Beis Medrash building of the RJJ Yeshiva in Edison; according to the listmember, it's available from approximately 6:30AM and does not require an advance appointment.  For further details, please contact the Yeshiva at 732-985-6533.  Thank you.
