The Elmora section of Elizabeth and the streets surrounding it host many apartment buildings, and four families have recently moved into apartments in our area (four other families have recently purchased houses in the area).  We have heard that this apartment-building information is not well-known, so here's your opportunity to "spread the word" to friends and family...and to that end, we've created a page on the Website to help those looking for apartments contact area apartment-building management or landlords.  At this time, the first building to be thus listed, the Wymor House at 350 Elmora Avenue, would like it known that a one-bedroom apartment is currently available for $900/month and that a two-bedroom apartment will be available in mid-December for $1100/month.

Thank you for your efforts on behalf of our community, and best wishes for a guten Shabbes/Shabbas Shalom!

This past Shabbos, Rabbi Herman spoke out against the proposed WorldPride 2006 parade which is currently scheduled to occur in a few days in Yerushalayim Ir haKodesh.  Many shul members asked Rabbi Herman what concrete action they could take to help stop this parade.  One shul member noted privately via e-mail that a Web site has been set up to petition Israeli leaders -- please go to RespectJerusalem (or to its English-language version) and register your name.  Thank you.

In order to continue providing JEC Elmora Shul members with a regular newsletter (HaMagid) that contains updates and general information of interest to community members, we must have volunteers for writing, interviewing, gathering information, editing, graphic design, etc.  Please let us know if you can be part of the Public Relations Committee of the shul to help spread the wonderful activities of the Elmora Shul to our own members and beyond.  Please reply to Sheila Nashofer or call her at 908-764-4013 to express interest.  Thank you!

All members are welcome to attend and participate in the next Elmora Shul meeting, scheduled (to make explicit what we noted last month) for November 21st.  As mentioned in the online letter from Rabbi Avrohom Herman and Board Chairman David Cheslow, there are a few good reasons why we would like to see you at this particular meeting and believe you will be glad you came.  Thank you!

As Rabbi Herman mentioned in his d'rashah this past Shabbos, our shul has the privilege of hosting Rabbi Shaya Cohen, founder of Priority One, during Shabbos P' Vayeitzei, December 1st and 2nd.  Friday night features a family s'udah (including arrangements of different sorts for the children/youngsters) with a lecture by Rabbi Cohen on "Recognizing the Differences Between Our Children" and then an oneg/tisch for all (with chulent, refreshments, and lots of ruach)!  Rabbi Cohen will also speak on Shabbos afternoon -- the intended topic is "With All Your Heart," an in-depth analysis on the essence of t'filah.  Please see the online flyer for details, including the fee structure for members and non-members of the JEC Elmora Shul, and please RSVP by November 24th via e-mail or telephone (908-352-3923) to Lisa Averick. Thank you!

Thanks to the F.M. Kirby Foundation and Atlantic Health Systems, Overlook Hospital will be offering free stroke screening on Sunday, December 3rd in the JEC Halpern Cafeteria (the "lunchroom") between 10:30AM and (depending on the number of appointments) early afternoon.  Please see the online flyer for details.  If you wish to take advantage of this marvelous, possibly life-saving opportunity to check your arterial function, cholesterol and glucose levels, etc. and receive counseling from health professionals, please call Pearl Ricklis at 908-352-8507 to schedule an appointment.  Thank you.

Gentle reminder: if you haven't yet made reservations for the upcoming Shabbaton (details from the previous message are available above), please contact Lisa Averick at 908-352-3923 as soon as possible. Thank you! and, in the spirit of the love for our children which underlies all that parents and people like Rabbi Shaya Cohen do, have a wonderful Shabbos.

As they were last year, this year's "Jewish Voices" lectures at the YM-YWHA of Union County are free to the community and are sponsored by Gregg Rothstein in memory of his mother, Joanne R. Rothstein a'h'.  The next lecture will i'y'H' take place on Sunday, December 3rd at 8PM -- it features Dr. Carl Feit, a Talmudic scholar, scientist, and professor of biology at Yeshiva University, speaking on a topic with which he is intimately familiar, "Science and the Relationship to Torah."  If you can, please attend.  Thank you.
