Thanks to the fine work of our Adult Education Dep't, Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser of Brooklyn will i'y'H' speak in our community on Sep. 27th (the motzoei Shabbos before Rosh haShanah) between 9-10PM.  His lecture is entitled "Winning on Yom haDin."  We welcome and will publicize sponsorships at the Chai ($18), Silver ($50), and Gold ($100) levels -- to sponsor (or for further details about) this event, please contact Rich Rosenzweig at 908-353-8333 or via e-mail.  Thank you!

Our Youth Department has planned two exciting events for each of the next two Sundays:

  • This coming Sunday afternoon, Sep. 14th, all HSers are cordially invited to enjoy hours of mini-golf, batting cages, and go-karts at Staten Island Mini Golf, followed by dinner at Grillz!  The bus will leave at 4:30PM from the JEC.  Cost: $16 (plus money for dinner).
  • The following Sunday, Sep. 21st, all families & friends are cordially invited to bring a picnic lunch and travel together to Demarest Farm -- for a $12 fee, each attendee can pick & bag up to a peck (approximately 12 pounds!) of apples and enjoy a hay ride (contact Elie re possible family discounts)!  With enough reservations, we will be able to rent transportation (leaving the JEC at 10AM sharp) and provide it for the additional cost of $8 per person (those driving to Demarest Farm, allow approximately 40 minutes from Elizabeth and meet us there at 10:45AM).  We will provide supervision for kids coming without an adult.

The l'vaya for Marvin Heller a'h' took place earlier today in California.  His son, Baruch Heller, will i'y'H' return to our community on Thursday night to complete the shiv'a, sitting from Friday morning through Tuesday morning at his residence, 349 Summit Road, Union, NJ (tel#: 908-353-3656; ZIP: 07083-7745).  Davening times in the Elizabeth beis aveil are as follows:

The funeral and l'vaya for Jack Krul a'h' will i'y'H' take place today, Thursday, Sep. 18th, at Congregation Ohav Emeth, 415 Raritan Avenue in Highland Park, NJ, beginning at 12:30PM; burial will i'y'H' take place in eretz Yisrael.  Sons Geddy and David and daughter Marsha Shulman will i'y'H' return to the States & sit shiv'a from Sunday morning through Thursday morning at the residence of the niftar, 401 Montgomery Street, Highland Park, NJ (tel#: 732-227-0270; ZIP: 08904-2715); daughter Sarah Benchetrit will most likely sit shiv'a at her residence in eretz Yisrael.  Davening times in the Highland Park beis aveil are as follows:

  • This coming Shabbos afternoon, Sep. 20th, all middle- and high-school boys are cordially invited to congregate in the JEC Goldfischer Gym after Minchah in Shul for a Seudah Shlishis -- enjoy!
  • On motzoei Shabbos, we are hosting a Pre-S'lichos Program for all HSers in the JEC Halpern Cafeteria (a/k/a/ the "lunchroom"), featuring dinner, sessions and a shiur by Rabbi Chaim Hagler, a raffle, & ice cream and ending with the saying of S'lichos.  The program begins at 9:30PM, and admission is a super-reasonable $5.  Please come!
