Our Youth Department has planned many exciting events for the remainder of Tishri, and we hope to publicize all of them ASAP after Shabbos.  One event will i'y'H' occur this coming Sunday, Oct. 12th, so a quick note is in order now: all kids in Grades Primer through 4th are cordially invited to the JEC Sukkah between 10AM-noon to create beautiful decorations for it and for their family's sukkah!  Cost: $6.

One more quick note: please review the attached overview of this year's programming and, if necessary, fill out and return the registration form -- your kids will thank you!

The funeral and l'vaya for Mrs. Marilyn Sandman a'h', mother of former Elizabeth resident and current JEC teacher Susan Kaplan, will i'y'H' take place today, Sunday, Oct. 12th, at the Bernheim-Apter funeral home, 68 Old Short Hills Road in Livingston, NJ, beginning at 10AM.  Susan will sit shiv'a this afternoon through tomorrow (erev Yuntef) at her brother Arthur's residence, 239 Milltown Road, Springfield, NJ (tel#: 973-376-4276; ZIP: 07081-2411).

  • This morning, Oct. 12th, all kids in Grades Primer through 4th are cordially invited to the JEC Sukkah between 10AM-noon to create beautiful decorations for it and for their family's sukkah!  Cost: $6.
  • On the first day of Chol haMoeid, Thursday, Oct. 16th, we have an entertainment extravaganza (laser tag, glow-enhanced mini-golf and bowling, billiards, and much more) planned for all youngsters in Grades 7-12 at New Rochelle's New Roc City!  The bus leaves JEC at 11AM and will i'y'H' return at approximately 6:30PM.  Available space was going fast -- assuming it is still available, Shul members can reserve today at a cost of $48 or after today at a cost of $50 (non-members, please add $2 to both figures).  Please bring lunch -- there will be a sukkah on the premises.  Have fun!
  • The next day, Friday, Oct. 17th, all kids in Grades 1-8 are cordially invited to go bowling!  The bus leaves the JEC parking lot at 10:30AM and will i'y'H' return at approximately 1PM.  Shul members can reserve today at a cost of $15 or after today at a cost of $18 (non-members, please add $2 to both figures).  Enjoy!
  • On Simchas haTorah, Oct. 22nd, we are hosting Get-Togethers for all MSers (for girls, in the JEC Goldfischer Gym; for boys, in the downstairs-classrooms area of the JEC), featuring food, games, schmoozing, and Torah Tours.  The programs begin at 4:15PM and continue until Mincha.  Please come!

As mentioned on the attached flyer, here is the schedule for Youth Groups over the upcoming Yuntef:

  • On the first two days of the Chag, Oct. 14th and 15th, there will be groups (from 9:45-11:15AM) only for Nursery-2nd Grade children in addition to regular babysitting.
  • On Shabbos Chol haMoeid, Oct. 18th, as well as on Shmini Chag haAtzeres, Oct. 21st, there will be groups (from 9:45-11:15AM) for all relevant ages.
  • On Simchas haTorah, Oct. 22nd, there will be no groups.

Please note that the end time of 11:15AM is only an estimate -- parents are urged to pick their children up just before the Main Shul minyan's ba'al t'filah begins the repetition (chazoras haSHaTZ) of Musaf.  Thank you.
