Tonight, Dec. 2nd, the entire community is invited to attend a memorial service at the Bris Avrohom Center, 910 Salem Avenue in Hillside, beginning at 8PM, for the victims of last week's terrorist attack in Mumbai, India. Rabbi Herman's scheduled Parasha shiur for women has been cancelled for tonight so that all can attend the memorial service. Thank you.

In lieu (this week only) of the regularly-scheduled Shabbos-afternoon Parasha shiur, we are pleased to host Bracha Goetz (famous author of eight Jewish children's books, an editor of books for women, and the Mentoring Coordinator at Jewish Community Services in Baltimore) this coming Shabbos, Dec. 6th, in the JEC Reibel Beis Medrash, speaking on "Meeting God at Harvard: A Journey in Judaism," beginning at 3PM. You are sure to enjoy her thoughts -- please make every effort to attend! Thank you.
This coming motzoei Shabbos, Dec. 6th, the entire community is cordially invited to enjoy
a "double feature" of live, via-Internet shiurim in JEC Room 146, beginning at 7:30PM with the regularly-scheduled Navi shiur by Rabbi Yisroel Reisman and
continuing at 8:30PM with
a special shiur by Rabbi Yissocher Frand, entitled "Rav S.R. Hirsch: The Power of His
Written Word,"
in honor of the upcoming completion of the new English edition of the Hirsch
Chumash. Please come and enjoy!
In his shiur this past motzoei Shabbos,
R'Reisman regularly referred to a map -- a copy of that
map is now online. Thank you.

As Rav Teitz noted in the Main Shul this past Shabbos, the JEC is a significant beneficiary of our local Federation (which also supports the local Y, JFS, and other community organizations as well as communities in Israel and elsewhere), and most of its funds come from solicitations centered around "Super Sunday," which this year is this coming Sunday, Dec. 7th. Please register to come to the Scotch Plains JCC and make phone calls during one of the three designated shifts (9AM-11:30AM, 11:30AM-2:30PM, or 5PM-8PM; special shift for teenagers between 11AM and 2:30PM) either via the online page or by calling Lillah Nussbaum at the Federation office (908-889-5335) -- in either case, please note that you are volunteering as part of the JEC group. Thank you!
As mentioned in the previously-sent letter, please note that our local Federation will host a range of family activities at the Scotch Plains JCC this coming Sunday for everyone, whether or not anyone from the family is making phone calls, including but not limited to: toy, food, and blood drives; crafts and a "Leaders in the Making" program for kids; a Chanukah boutique for all your gift-giving and other needs; letter-writing to IDF soldiers; and a concert by Yosi! and babysitting/childcare services will be available. Your presence counts tremendously, so if at all possible, please come -- again, register either via the online page or by calling (908-889-5335) or e-mailing Lillah Nussbaum at the Federation office and note that you are joining the fun as part of the JEC group. Thank you, and have a great time!

Mr. Mendel Farkas, Aharon Menachem ben Pesel, had surgery
earlier this week and is doing well, Baruch HaShem. We thank the community for your t'fillos, calls and well wishes. Rather than calling the hospital, please call
our home to leave a message. Please understand that we may not be able to
return every call. We will share
information as it becomes available.

Please be advised that while some
"Stop and Shop" bakeries in the Northeast US are under the
supervision of the Rabbinical Council of New England/Va'ad
HaRabbonim (Va'ad HaKashrus) of Massachusetts (symbol KVH), the "Stop and
Shop" bakery at 801 Newark Avenue (intersection with North
Avenue) is NOT under KVH supervision.
All items baked at this location (as opposed to
off-site/elsewhere) were mistakenly labeled with a KVH
hechsher.

On Friday night, January 2nd, all women in the community are cordially invited for a Shabbos Tea (likely also featuring other culinary delights) at Rebbetzin Rivky Herman's home, 939 Harding Road, beginning at 8:15PM. This evening features a guest speaker, Mrs. Yael Spiewak (distinguished daughter of community members Bernie and Alice Hall), on a most-intriguing topic, "Reflections on Jewish Life in Odessa & Moscow Today," and promises to be quite informative and worthwhile. Thank you, and enjoy this event!
