The following alert (emphasis ours) is courtesy of Kashrut.com.  We have reliable information that the type of package noted below (solid or jelled olive oil in plastic cups) was sold by vendor Judaica Central at the recent AI Chanukah boutique which took place at the JEC -- if you purchased a plastic-cups package from this vendor, please bring it back to them for a replacement glass-cups package.

Chanukah Menorahs containing prefilled solid olive oil canisters in plastic containers are again on sale this year. These products are a fire hazard. Check any that you purchase to make sure that the cups holding the olive oil jel is glass and not plastic.

Posted on the Albert Einstein Synagogue website: "This Friday I went to buy pre-filled cups. I got the ones in a blue triangular package called Kankanim and on the package it said that they're made out of glass. When I got home I wanted to make sure that they were indeed glass and not plastic b/c they felt too light. I lit a candle and touched the flame to the rim of the cup and after a few seconds it started to melt and bubble (glass doesn't do that). I brought them back to the store and got different ones that are definitely glass. But for now Kankanim ones are still on display and are not being pulled off the shelves."

As a reminder of last year's alert re the same type of problematic product, please see the press release that was eventually issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Thank you.

Shul members will soon be receiving a Board Election ballot via US Mail.  Six members successfully petitioned to be on the ballot for the five available Board seats.  To aid you in choosing which of these highly-qualified ladies and gentlemen you wish to see working on your and the community's behalf, each candidate was asked to submit a brief policy/biographical statement.  These statements will i'y'H' appear on the reverse side of the ballot and are also posted on the Shul Website.  As is the case for any member-specific information we publicize, the statements file is password-protected -- please reply if you are a Shul member, do not know the members-only password, and would like to know it.  Thank you for reading & for voting, and many thanks & hatzlachah rabbah to each of our candidates!

The next lecture (flyer available online) in our local Federation's Contemporary Israel series, scheduled to begin at 7PM on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at the Wilf Jewish Community Campus, 1391 Martine Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ, will discuss the longstanding Jewish communities that were uprooted from what today are Arab countries and their relationship to today's Middle East peace process.  It is co-sponsored by a few local congregations, including our own Shul and the Adath Israel Shul.  Speakers will i'y'H' include Stanley Urman, executive director of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries, and Jewish Agency shlichah Miri Hasson, whose family fled Tunisia.  For more information, please contact Felice Maranz of JFedCNJ at 908-889-5335 x304 or 908-889-5370.

A ladies' glove (picture available online) was lost recently -- it was found outside of the Shul on the morning of Dec. 1st, Shabbos P'Vayeishev.  As the Bruriah 9th Grade girls were "in town" for a Shabbaton that weekend, it's possible this glove belonged to one of those girls.  In any case, the finder (and we) would very much like to reunite this glove with its rightful owner, so please feel free to pass this message on to anyone who might be that person or know who she is.  Thank you, and tizkeh/tizki l'mitzvos!

Thanks to all of you for reading and acting upon prior apartment-rental messages -- the two WyMor House apartments we recently listed have been rented to those who will i'y'H' join our growing community!  Another apartment, this one with two bedrooms, will be available in the WyMor House as of mid-January 2008, so if you know of a person or family looking to rent beginning in a month, please contact the superintendent (and please note that there is a new super), Julio, at 908-313-6350, and be sure to mention that you heard about the apartment from Rabbi Herman.  As always, please spread the word to anyone who may be interested (and don't forget to mention the growing number of young families living in this apartment house).  Thank you!

This coming Friday night, Jan. 4th, beginning at 8:15PM, everyone is invited to a tisch at the home of Jay and Brenda Buchsbaum, 6 Princeton Road, for what undoubtedly will be a leibedik celebration of Shabbos P'Vaeira, complete with at least four ways of commemorating the sedra's l'shonos g'ulah, loads of ruach...and perhaps a spot or two of food, too.  The following Friday night, Jan. 11th, also beginning at 8:15PM and in the spirit of last year's Oneg (which over 60 ladies enjoyed!), all women in the community are cordially invited for a Shabbos Tea (likely also featuring other culinary delights) at Rebbetzin Rivky Herman's home, 939 Harding Road.  This evening features a guest speaker, our community's Mrs. Tova Shulman, on the intriguing topic "Makkos Makeover: A Whole New You," and promises to be most worthwhile.  Thank you for reading, and have a great week!
